Why Art & Music

“Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education”.  - Plato

Studies support the theory that music instruction can help build intellectual and emotional skills, facilitate children’s learning and strengthen other academic areas such as reading and math.

Researchers from the University of California said: “Music training jump starts certain inherent patterns in parts of the brain responsible for spatial-temporal reasoning.

Children learn to think ahead or visualize as they must when playing a piece of music.

Music is physical. Music can be described as a sport. Learning to sing and keep rhythm develops coordination. The air and wind power necessary to blow a flute, trumpet or saxophone promotes a healthy body.

Music is emotional. Music is an art form. We are emotional beings and every child requires an artistic outlet. Music may be your child’s vehicle of expression.

Music is for life. Most people can’t play soccer or football at 70 or 80 years of age but they can sing. And they can play piano or some other instrument.

Music is a gift you can give your child that will last their entire life.

Music Lessons May Open Mind to Math, Science

USA Today-Just a few minutes a week of private keyboard instruction dramatically improves the kind of intelligence needed for high-level math and science,  suggests a new study.  Music lessons appear to strengthen the links between brain neurons and build new neural bridges needed for good spatial reasoning.

Lessons Aid Reading and Math Skills

There`s a Musician Hiding in All of Us

AP- There is no such thing as being too young or too old to participate in music.  Humans are born musicians because we all have the neurological and muscular capability to develop musical skills.

Piano Training is a Noteworthy Math Teaching Tool

USA TODAY- A study appearing in the journal Neurological Research is the latest in a series  suggesting that math helps children understand note values. “Piano instruction is thought to enhance the brain`s hardwiring for spatial-temporal reasoning,”  according to  a professor of physics from UC-Irvine.
